Classically elegant claret jug in etched and cut cranberry glass with silver plate mount, c1862. Hinged lid with acorn finial, simple scrolling foliate design on handle and decorative cast spout. Body is of cranberry glass overlaid onto clear glass which has then been etched and cut to create the design. Very high quality glass-work - sadly unsigned! Marked PT&Co S to top mount which is for Pryor & Tyzack Company, Sheffield. The jug is 29.5 cm in height, base of jug is 12 cm in diameter and overall width is 14.5 cm .
PT&Co S is the mark for Pryor Tyzack & Company, Sheffield. They operated from Granville Street in 1860-1861 and from 80, Division Street in 1862-1863. In 1863 the company changed its name to Beame, Pryor & Tyzack. They were predominantly known for high quality silver-plated table ware.
