A quality, finely finished French fiddleback mahogany and satinwood inlaid cylinder top desk c1900. The desk has fiddleback mahogany panels bordered with satinwood and box/ebony bands. Exquisite fiddleback mahogany top embraced by a superb brass gallery. The cylinder top is marquetry inlaid with stylised urn, swags and ribbons in contrasting colours – opening to reveal a fully fitted satinwood interior with ebony lines. The beautifully fitted interior having a small lockable cabinet, three drawers and two central shelves. Slide-out writing surface lined in original thin baize with tooled Moroccan leather boarder. Single frieze drawer, marquetry inlaid to match the cylinder top. The whole is raised on square tapered legs terminating in spade feet. Legs inlaid with box lines and with marquetry inlays of bell flowers to front. Fully finished in the round for free-standing in a room. Matching original pulls to cabinet drawers, cylinder and frieze drawer. All original working locks and supplied with two keys. Original finish throughout. The desk measures 80 cm in width, 50 cm in depth and 106 cm height.
