Large example of a Japanese Meiji period bronze and mixed metal vase c1885. Heavy bronze shouldered vase with twin handles. Lovely honey-coloured aged patina. Engraved design to body with finely worked, applied and inlaid mixed metal decoration in relief. Mixed metals of silver, copper, and other alloys applied to create a beautiful design of birds amongst flowering trees encircling the vase. Included with previous correspondence from Sotheby’s of London confirming the vase’s origin and date. The vase is 31 cm in height and 17.5 cm maximum diameter.
