Striking Art Deco Royal Doulton stoneware vase c1920. Baluster form vase with short waisted neck. Stylised floral and foliate design executed using scraffito and painted techniques. Eye catching design in beautifully muted colours, combined with its form to give a particularly attractive piece. Impressed Royal Doulton mark (used 1902-1922) and pattern number 7927. Monogram LB (unknown) and S for Eliza Stock. The vase measures 24 cm in height and 15 cm maximum diameter.
An example of ‘New Style’ designs that were created during the 1920s – designed by Doulton artists for execution usually by senior assistants. Also called ‘Late Edition’ vases, they were very popular between the wars but discontinued during WWII.
The monogram ‘LB’ is seen on a number of well executed Doulton pieces however records of who this was no longer exist. Eliza Stock was recorded in 1882 as a junior assistant, working through to the early 20th century. For more information on Doulton visit our Maker's History pages.
